Product Description:
The main component of ceramic shot is zirconia. It is utilized for several purpose of surface processing such as sand blasting and shot peening. The production procedure is to melt high-quality imported zircon sand into liquid in high temperature, and then spray it into small balls. The ceramic spheres are screened and then removed by magnetic separation to make sure that particles possess roundness, strength and uniform particle size.
The ceramic shot beads are well-known for its excellent effect during the sandblasting process. It helps to obtain better surface brightness with no color change on the workpiece. Its application could be found in different industries, such as aviation parts, stainless steel plates, structural parts, stainless steel kitchenware, medical devices, mobile phone / laptop shell, automobile chassis / engine, and sports equipment.
Features:
The main component of ceramic shot is zirconia, which is characterized by small crystal size and high wear resistance. Its hardness is also quite remarkable: Vickers hardness (microhardness) is 700hv and Rockwell hardness is 600hrc. Its density and specific gravity are much higher than those of glass beads, which makes ceramic shot more wear and tear resistant.
No dust or other particles are generated during sand blasting with ceramic shot, thus presenting a smooth professional finish as the surface brightness can be achieved. Its efficiency while sand blasting is much higher than glass bead sandblasting: around 60-70% lower.
Ceramic shot can work on a variety of metals and nonmetal materials, such as titanium alloy, magnesium alloy, aluminum alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, brass and alloy, acrylic, plastic and others. Unlike other abrasives, it does not react chemically with the material, nor will it leave any metal residue behind on the workpiece.
It is applicable for both dry and wet sand blasting. And due to its surface being very smooth, the wear of sand blasting equipment is greatly reduced.
Ceramic shot also has a long service life, capable of being recycled up to 25 times, which is much more than the glass beads. The roundness is also high, and there is very few numbers of abnormal balls and snowman balls adhered between the spheres.
Applications:
In the aerospace industry, shot peening is employed to improve parts’ strength and stability as well as reduce their weight. In automotive applications such as gearbox gears and aluminum hubs, shot peening is used to increase anti-fatigue life by relieving stress, creating peen-forms and peen-straightening. Additionally, shot peening is used in applications related to nuclear and chemical industries as well as various medical fields.
The process also shares many similarities with other related blast finishing processes such as sandblasting to achieve a satin finish, cleaning, deburring, and descaling. It can also be used as a pretreatment before spraying or coating.
