Brown Corundum Abrasives has the characteristics of high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, low coefficient of linear expansion, and corrosion resistance. In practice, dozens of fire-proof production companies have found it to be explosion-proof, smokeless and crack-resistant. Moreover, it is cost-effective compared to traditional brown corundum, making it the best aggregate and filler for fused alumina refractories. 


Brown Fused Alumina is created by melting bauxite in an electric arc furnace at very high temperatures. It is a dark brown colour and possesses high hardness and extreme toughness. It has a high temperature resistance, erosion resistance, maintenance strength and thermal stability, making it an ideal substance for creating shaped refractories. 


Brown Aluminum Oxide is manufactured from a combination of premium raw materials and high voltage electricity in a 3500 KVA furnace. Due to its lower hardness and abrasive capacity than diamond, boron carbide and silicon carbide, Brown Aluminum Oxide is widely used in the grinding of ferrous materials and the finishing of hard and tough materials. It is also used as a high-grade refractory material. It is available in fine grades for micron and macro powder form.

Features:

Brown corundum was used as sandblasting surface treatment, because of its relatively high density, so that is less dust in the process of sandblasting. This ensures operator health and safety, at the same time it can improve operator visibility. (Compared with slag: in the formation process of slag, cold water or even seawater is used for high temperature cooling, so it form the glass phase structure, with breakability. Because slag is relatively brittle, in the process of grinding, easy to be smashed into small particles. Because the slag is relatively brittle, it is easy to be crushed into small particles in the process of sandblasting. Because the density of slag is relatively small, which results in small slag particles suspended in the air and environmental pollution. Similarly, quartz sand is a very fragile abrasive.)

 

Brown corundum, under a certain pressure, can quickly impact the surface of the object with a large number of sharp edges, so it is regarded as a very fast spray grinding method. The acceleration and velocity of particles in the air flow are a function of inertance and particle size. The smaller the particle, the easier it is to accelerate and thus produce a higher impact force on the surface of the object, so that resulting in a very high cleaning rate, usually twice as fast as other conventional abrasives.The unique particle size of brown corundum ensures that more effective particles can hit the surface of the object, so the use of brown corundum can greatly reduce the loss of abrasive.

 

In the process of sandblasting, brown corundum can penetrate deep into the holes and pits on the surface and reach the bare surface of the metal, so it can completely remove all rust, water-soluble salts and other pollutants. The treated metal surface is very clean and free of embeddings, and the quality is easily up to standard grade. Relatively speaking, such as copper slag and nickel slag, the coarse sharp edges and corners of slag are easy to remain on the surface of steel after sandblasting, which leads to the failure of the initial coating and poor coating effect.

 

 

Technical Parameters:

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) exists in solid/crystalline state with a brown color. It has a hardness rated 9 on the Mohs scale and it melts at 2045°C (3723°F) and starts to boil at ~2980°C (5400°F). Additionally, its density is 3.9 g/cm³ and its refractive index is 1.76. The specific heat capacity of aluminum oxide is 0.88 J/gK and the thermal conductivity ranges from 30.0-35.0 W/mK at room temperature. The Mohs scale of mineral hardness is 9 and its bulk density is 1.57-1.65 g/cm³. Aluminum oxide has a regular and sharp edged grain shape, and it is non-magnetic, with a Mohs hardness scale of abrasives of 9. It has a trigonal hexagonal crystal structure, with particle size ranging from 12-1200 micro-meters (μm). It also has a chemical composition of Al2O3 (95%+), SiO2 (<1.5%), and MgO (<1.4%), with typically below 0.11% free iron content. Aluminum oxide has a refractoriness above 1900°C, and a neutral pH level (7.0). It is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid, is highly flame resistant, and is an insulator (non-conductive) in terms of electrical conductivity. Its water-soluble salts content is <0.3%, and it cleans without polluting. Aluminum oxide has a coefficient of thermal expansion of 8x10-6/°C and it is mechanically strong, highly chemical stable, and resistant to thermal shock. Lastly, it has a high strength.
