Product Description

Product Description:

Brown Corundum Abrasive boasts a number of features, including high purity, good crystallization, strong fluidity, low coefficient of linear expansion, and corrosion resistance. It is also known for its high performance in applications; with no explosions, no chalking, and no cracking observed. Furthermore, it is a highly cost-effective alternative to traditional brown corundum, making it an ideal aggregate and filler for fused alumina refractories.

To create this product, bauxite is fused in an electric arc furnace at high temperatures and converted into a brownish-coloured material, with high hardness and extreme toughness. Furthermore, brown fused alumina has high temperature resistance, strong erosion resistance, high machinery strength, and thermal stability, making it suitable for a range of shaped refractories.

Brown Aluminum Oxide is manufactured using the highest quality raw materials, and a 3500 KVA furnace. It is the best option for general abrasive applications in bonded abrasive tools, polishing and sandblasting grit. While it is not as hard or abrasive as diamond, boron carbide, and silicon carbide, it is effective for grinding ferrous materials and finishing tough and hard materials. It is also used as high-class refractory materials and is available both in macro and micro powder form, in both F and P grades.

Features:

Brown corundum is used as sandblasting surface treatment due to its higher density than other conventional abrasives, resulting in less dust while performing the sandblasting. This ensures the safety of operators by not only improving visibility yet also eliminating potential health risks. Compared to other materials, such as slag, quartz sand, or copper slag, brown corundum can penetrate deeper during sandblasting, due to its unique and small particle size.

The high acceleration and velocity that brown corundum has when pushed through the air flow gives it a greater impact force on the surface of the object, leading to a high cleaning rate. This reduces abrasive loss and metal surface embeddings, becoming actually a standard grade.

Also, brown corundum does not contain hazardous materials, meaning its use a non-toxic mineral. Additionally, it has a low consumption and it is also recyclable, which greatly reduces the amount and cost of waste disposal.

The main application of brown corundum lies in the sandblasting process; it is very suitable for many fields, and can be reused several times or recycled and applied as an additive cement in the construction industry.

Technical Parameters:

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) is a solid/crystalline substance with a brown color. It has a 9 Mohs hardness rating and a melting point of 2045°C (3723°F). Its boiling point is approximately 2980°C (5400°F), and its density is measured to be 3.9 g/cm³. This substance has a refractive index of 1.76 and a specific heat capacity of 0.88 J/gK.

At room temperature, aluminium oxide's thermal conductivity lies between 30.0 and 35.0 W/mK. It has a Mohs hardness scale rating of 9, as well as an abrasives rating of 9. Its bulk density is 1.57-1.65 g/cm³, and its crystal shape is trigonal hexagonal. The particles vary in size, ranging between 12-1200 µm.

Aluminium oxide is composed mainly of Al2O3 (95%+), as well as SiO2 (<1.5%) and MgO (<1.4%). It has a free iron content that is typically below 0.11%. It has a refractoriness of above 1900°C and is neutral (pH 7.0). Furthermore, it is soluble in hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid. It is a highly flame resistant, non-conductive material with a water-soluble salts content of <0.3%. Additionally, it is non-polluting. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is 8x10-6/°C, and it exhibits high mechanical strength, chemical stability and thermal shock resistance.

Aluminum oxide also has a very high strength-to-weight ratio. All these properties make it an excellent material for industrial use.

Applications:

Brown Corundum is used in a wide variety of applications, showcasing its wide-ranging versatility and durability. In wire sawing operations, it is used as an abrasive to cut complex shapes in a wide range of materials. It is also employed in precision casting, which is the process of producing high accuracy components for the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries. Brown Corundum offers excellent resistance to high temperatures, making it perfect for lining material for furnaces and kilns. It is also used as a binding agent in diamond grinding wheels, which are typically used in high-precision grinding operations.

In addition, Brown Corundum can be used in the form of grinding pastes for optical lens grinding, tool manufacturing, and polishing; in ultrasonic grinding, a non-contact machining process that is commonly used in material removal and surface finishing operations; in metal surface treatment, including cleaning, degreasing, and polishing; in the production of cutting discs to cut stone and create concrete; and in dry sanding operations to remove stains and clean surfaces on metals and other materials.

Brown Corundum is also used to produce coated abrasive products, such as sandpaper and abrasive belts for surface finishing and material removal operations. Furthermore, it has become an increasingly relevant non-skid flooring material, providing traction and preventing slips and falls in high traffic areas.
